Sometimes it is a struggle to establish clear lines between my art “business” and my desire use my talents to connect others to Islam. Therefore, my Instagram posts of art always have had captions that contain Islamic reflection, my website has had a blog section with reflective articles, and the new publication, while introducing Islamic art forms and its link to the Islamic worldview, has a Islamic art journaling section to connect others to the Islamic worldview Islamic art stems from.
The art journaling section contains a section called “Foundational Reflections”, a section I put together to walk through the Quranic worldview. It is a section close to my heart. It is something I wish I had a clear concise vision of when I was younger. We have so much (Islamic) information out there, we struggle to put it together and truly reflect on and grasp it in a meaningful way.
This section was put together to walk us through an understanding of life as it is presented in the Quran. While the concepts presented are something we may heard of, walking through it in the order it is presented, reflecting on each topic individually and the section as a whole can really lead us to a profound understanding of our Lord, ourselves, and the world around us.
And this is section of the book that causes me to pause and ask “is this a product for my business, or is this something that will help others?”
While the beautifully illustrated book is available (here) and I encourage you to get a copy, I feel obligated to share this section with everyone this Ramadan.
Whether you decide to use the prompts as art practice or in a writing journal, ultimately this section is one that is an exercise in reflection.
I hope this section helps you in your journey of reflection and connection this month of Ramadan and I you have a blessed month ahead .
